Its bill is of a dark horn color, and its body plumage exhibits shades of green. The form referred to as M. i. elbeli, present in northern Thailand, showcases distinctive traits including a red forehead, a green crown with a rear red spot, a blue face and throat, and a black eyestripe with a moustache.
